While Gervonta Davis ranks no 3 under the lightweight (up to 135 pounds) division, Shakur Stevenson is the current WBO junior lightweight, WBO featherweight, and WBC junior lightweight champion. Notably, when Gervonta defended his WBA World Lightweight title against Rolly, a potential matchup between Davis and Stevenson stroke up the boxing world. Recently, in a conversation with Brian Custer, Stevenson voiced his thoughts about the same.

“I think it’s a good fight. He would have to, maybe, get inside of the height and reach that I have and try to land a big shot. But at the end of the day, it’s a great fight,” he said.

“I ain’t taking nothing away from Tank, but I think I’m winning with whoever. I don’t care who it is. Whoever you name right now, I’m going to tell that I could beat them,” he added.

Stylistically, how do Shakur Stevenson and Gervonta Davis differ from one another?

Davis and Stevenson have known each other for some time now. In fact, the two share sweet memories of sparring as well. That being said, the strengths and weaknesses of one another should be no mystery to either Stevenson or Tank. Indeed, as Shakur Stevenson spoke, he will have a vivid reach advantage over Davis. However, Davis is well-experienced in fighting taller boxers and simultaneously shows immense maturity inside the ring.

Evidently, a jab followed by a straight hand did him a whole world of good in his last fight. Against Valdez, he relied upon basics, intelligently used his lead hand, and prevented the former from getting inside.

On the other hand, Tank knows his limitations; he is truly a patient fighter in the ring. In his last fight against Rolly, he stayed alarmed but calm throughout the night. Carefully, he searched his openings and let accuracy do the work.
