The severity of Tyson Fury’s cut, requiring extensive stitching, might postpone the fight date to at least June, as reported by various sources. Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs), the holder of the IBF, WBA, and WBO titles, is contemplating an interim fight, according to manager Egis Klimas.

This incident has forced Usyk to face a new opponent due to Fury’s unfortunate injury. However, Evander Holyfield had a hard time believing how Fury got a cut above his eye despite wearing a headgear. He said, “If you have the head gears on, I don’t see how he got hit like that. If you know, because the gears will be thick enough, before they hit the eyes, it hit the pads.

‘The Gypsy King’ was only a couple of weeks away from taking a fight against Usyk for the undisputed crown. He released a statement where he talked about how devastated he felt because of this ordeal.

Reportedly, the fight might be pushed to at least June or later, leaving Fury on the sidelines for an undisclosed period of recovery. After this, Fury stated, “I am absolutely devastated after preparing for this fight for so long and being in such superb condition. I feel bad for everyone involved in this huge event and I will work diligently towards the ­rescheduled date once the eye has healed.

Furthermore, he added, “I can only apologise to everyone affected including my own team, Team Usyk, the undercard fighters, partners, and fans as well as our hosts and my friends in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
