It might have been weeks but before they discuss a rematch, Chantelle Cameron has suddenly raised concerns over the referee’s credibility in her match against Katie Taylor. In a thrilling and unforgettable showdown in Dublin on 25th November, Katie Taylor secured the title of the new undisputed world super-lightweight champion by triumphing over Cameron on points. This victory marked a poignant redemption for Taylor, avenging her narrow loss to Cameron on a majority decision six months ago.

Cameron has not only expressed her interest in a trilogy fight but also questioned the referee from their previous bout. She and her trainer, both have deemed the referee, Roberto Ramirez Jr., responsible for her loss.

Referee Roberto Ramirez Jr. came under fire in November from trainer Jamie Moore, who felt that the official ignored what he considered to be protracted holding during the bout. Cameron joined in this time, pointing out that in comparison to referees in high-profile fights, he was comparatively unknown. “It wasn’t just me and Katie in that ring. If it was, I’d take the loss and say the better woman won on the night. I had everything against me. The ref on the night. It was such a high-status fight, why would you put in a referee no one had heard of?” said Cameron.

Cameron questioned why Ramirez Jr. was chosen for the Dublin fight. It is worth noting that he officiated the 2021 WBO world middleweight title battle between Demetrius Andrade and Liam Williams. He was also a part of the grudge match between Logan Paul and Dillon Danis, which took place on the undercard of Tommy Fury’s most recent triumph in Manchester. However, it was not just the referee she had complaints with.

Chantelle Cameron calls out Eddie Hearn

Despite her desire for a third bout with Taylor, Cameron is skeptical that Matchroom, the promotion company for both fighters, is keen on arranging it. Cameron feels that her status as a threat to Taylor was evident in their first fight, where even Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn seemed emotionally affected by her victory. She said she was disappointed in Hearn for his jubilant response to Taylor’s victory, calling it callous and humiliating.

“In the second fight, in the celebrations, he forgot I was his fighter as well. He was jumping up and down, happy… obviously, they’ve had a great story together, and a great journey, but they represent me as well,” said Cameron. Despite these feelings, Cameron appreciated Hearn’s contribution to her career and her rise to the position of uncontested champion. She states that she is willing to accept any conditions in order to continue her trilogy with Taylor. Cameron also said that she hopes to finally achieve her lifelong dream of competing at Franklin’s Gardens.

A trilogy fight would put any remaining doubt to rest by breaking the tie. If Cameron is correct, the fight might quite actualize. Who do you think would reign superior if a fight was to happen?
