‘I Have a Cage in My Spine’: Mike Tyson Makes Startling Revelation

During his prime, there seemed no man capable of hurting Mike Tyson. The former heavyweight champion was so dominant that he would end the fight in a matter of minutes, not even letting it move into the second round.

However, even Iron Mike is seemingly not invincible as he made a startling revelation about the problems he has faced with his spine.

Tyson reveals his spinal problems

In an episode of his podcast Hotboxing, radio personality and rapper Angie Martinez who was a guest on the podcast, stated that she had been in a car accident that broke her spine.

I was in a horrible car accident about two and a half years ago, I gotta little cage in my spine.” She told Tyson who revealed that he also had a cage in his spine and asked his wife what exactly happened with his back, “I do too. I have a cage in my spine. What happened to my spine.” He said.

Tyson’s wife then stated that he had The L4 and L5 vertebrae of the lumbar spine, which provide a variety of functions, including supporting the upper body and allowing trunk motion in multiple directions, removed from his body. “It’s like the lower two. What are they, the five and six? They’re Titanium rods.” She said. Martinez then went on to reveal that she too had one vertebra missing.”Yeah, I have one missing.” She added.

Tyson’s body has seen a lot of damage throughout his life. His career path as a boxer meant that he would have to put his body through immense stress, which could have been the reason he incurred spinal damage later in his life, or it could have been a horrifying accident.

Tyson was born in the streets of Brooklyn, New York, and was part of a dysfunctional family. His father bailed out on him and his mother when Tyson was just a baby. This left Tyson without a father figure, leaving his mother responsible for the whole family. However, she too passed away when Tyson was 16 years old, which made Iron Mike emotionally vulnerable.

This led Tyson to pursue a life of crime and violence, often getting in trouble with the law and being placed in juvenile detention centers. However, this would change when Tyson was introduced to boxing by Bobby Stewart, which eventually led him to his adopted father and coach Cus D’Amato, who would turn Iron Mike into one of the best heavyweights in the world.
