To most die-hard boxing fans, it was as if their innermost wishes were fulfilled. After years of talks, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao finally squared off on May 2, 2015, at the MGM Grand Arena. As far as business goes, the bout broke all previous records. Interestingly, with roughly 4.6 million PPV buys that generated over $400 million in revenue, its record as the highest-grossing boxing event of all time has yet to meet a match. However, it was the fighting that became a concern. Most fans and critics slammed it for being a dull affair.

The ‘Fight of the Century‘ remains one of those contests for which calls for a rematch have been largely muted. But should there genuinely be a sequel? While the question begs for a more extensive debate, it seems there are moves to pull off a sequel. Though not so extensively, ‘PacMan’ appears to have followed his former rival in pursuing an exhibition career. Now, per the latest reports, he has a fight scheduled for sometime in December. But reportedly, there’s still no clarity on the opponent. Perhaps the vacuum gave Pacquaio an idea to rope in Mayweather Jr. for a rematch, even if it’s an exhibition one! However, the latter’s son appears to entertain a different viewpoint.

Fight in the movie, please!

So, while speaking to Fight Hub TV, Manny Pacquiao reportedly said, “I’am still active and training. I have an exhibition match this coming December in Japan. We are working on the opponent. We’re working with [Floyd] Mayweather.” The comment must have left many wondering. At least, it seems to have baffled Koraun Mayweather, Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s eldest child.

Taking the @espnringside post that carried Pacquiao’s quote, the 24-year-old youngster wrote on his Instagram story, “I’am crying!” Then he suggested the duo could as well go ahead and make another squeal of the popular Rush Hour movie franchise starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker: “Nah, just make Rush Hour 4!” Interestingly, the fourth edition of the hit series may finally have an association with boxing. Per available reports, Mike Tyson plays a vital role in the motion picture.

Manny Pacquiao – still on the move

Manny Pacquiao took baby steps in the exhibition circuit with a bout against South Korean martial artist DK Yoo last December. Then there are reports of him squaring up against Muay Thai legend Buakaw Banchamek in January 2024. Additionally, the former 8-division world champion seems keen to plug the last chink in his armor—an Olympic medal. Though the Olympic Committee of the Philippines has submitted a request to the IOC to consider Pacquiao’s inclusion in the boxing team, it remains to be seen whether the soon-to-be 45-year-old legend could have a chance at the biggest sporting arena, fighting amateurs and perhaps much younger boxers.
