Finally, Forbes released the list of highest-paid athletes for 2023 yesterday. No surprises for guessing; soccer players occupied the top three slots. Christiano Ronaldo, with overall earnings of $136 million, stood first, followed by Lionel Messi with $130 million. According to the list, Frenchman Kylian Mbappe took home roughly $120 million. Out of the fifty, there were only two boxers – ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, who stood fifth in the overall ranking, and Anthony Joshua, twenty-eighth.
TalkSPORt’s Michael Benson shared the details in the afternoon. The post read, “Canelo Alvarez ($110 million) and Anthony Joshua ($53 million) are the only two boxers featuring in Forbes’ full top 50 highest-paid athletes list for 2023.” The tweet, which has received over 200k views, has gotten nearly a hundred retweets. While many agreed with what Forbes shared, a few took it out on the reigning Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Anthony Joshua are fine, but Fury, does he have the money to make it? Fans ask
User Benji can now comprehend why Tyson Fury doles out meager amounts to his opponents.
I see why Fury underpays his opponents now he just hasn’t got the doh

Another user believes that Anthony Joshua makes more money despite all his losses. But, on the other hand, Tyson Fury is not such a crowd-puller despite what he thinks about himself.
Tyson fury isn’t the commercial draw he thinks he is it’s why the Saudis told him to do one when he wanted a ridiculous amount. AJ makes more after 3 defeats 😭

The following user, too, seems to agree with the Forbes list. Anyways, Tyson Fury hasn’t fought a single bout in 2023. Had he done so, then his name would have been there, said the user.
Makes sense. The Gypsy King hasn’t fought in 2023 because if he did he would be #1.

But there were a few who felt the list validated pertinent details. For example, both Alvarez and Joshua are two of the biggest money-makers in boxing. If the latter fights one more time by the end of the year, he would be standing at a much higher place, believes the user.
These are the 2 biggest earners in the sport. If the big AJ fight happens at the end of the year he should be a lot higher too.

According to a user named Steve, Alvarez and Joshua are today’s most influential names in boxing. Hence to find their names in Forbes is barely a matter of surprise.
