Ryan Garcia was all over Devin Haney when both stood across each other in the Barclays Center on April 20. But the challenger not only had to negate the WBC champion’s skills, but he also had to triumph over the referee’s harsh calls against him. He vented his frustration over the strange call that could have cost him the fight. What did he say?
The upset caused an uproar in the boxing community. But things would have turned out differently if referee Harvey Dock had allowed ‘KingRy’ to continue in the seventh round when he had rocked ‘The Dream’. Despite dropping the lightweight champion on one knee, Dock held him back and later deducted a point from him. Why? The 25-year-old punched Haney on the break. A judge also made a similar strange call when he scored the contest even at 112, while others scored in Garcia’s favor. So, was it a conspiracy against him?

Ryan Garcia overcomes the trouble-trio
Garcia, at 25-1, turned to his TikTok handle and uploaded a clip, celebrating his success. However, he believed he had to edge past the Illuminati, referee, and Haney on April 20 to mark his stamp. The road was tough, but he did it. He said, “And the morning after guys. We did it. We did it, man.”

“At the end, man, I took on the Illuminati, I took on the ref and Devin Haney, and I cracked them all. Let’s go. God did. Jesus is king,” Garcia added.
What puzzled the fans and prominent names of the boxing community was the lack of warning from the referee. Dock straightaway deducted a point from the Victorville native, without any prior warning. The refereeing was questioned as Dock labeled the knockdowns as slips and his reluctance to allow Garcia to finish the fight when Haney was rocked and hurt. Many believe the referee halted the action without reason and robbed Garcia of a KO win, something Garcia himself had voiced about.

In the post-fight conference, Garcia expressed that Dock was “tripping.” He also pointed out that the fight should have been stopped as Haney had wobbly legs. He said, “At the end of the day, Harvey Dock, I think he was tripping. He should have stopped that fight. It was bad. [Haney] was really hurt.”

Gracia recounted the bizarre moment from the seventh round as he declared, “That was crazy. I never seen some s*** like that. He was holding him, and I [punched] him, and he was hurt, and I was like, ‘Yes! Done! Oh, point taken?'”

Fortunately, the referee’s call didn’t have a bearing on the fight’s result. Garcia cruised to a victory and put on a dominant display. It remains to be seen whether they’ll run it back anytime soon.
