Devin Haney delivered on what was expected of him. He has now become a two-division champion after scoring a convincing victory over Regis Prograis. The two met tonight at the Chase Center in San Francisco for the New Orleans-born southpaw’s WBC light welterweight belt. Surely, the win would open doors to much bigger prospects for ‘The Dream,’ who, soon after his move to 140 pounds, had to secede from the undisputed status. Eventually, he ceased to be a unified champion, as he had to vacate all his belts.

Soon after his victory, Ryan Garcia was one of the first to pen his thoughts. The young boxer from California, too, rides on the back of a recent victory over Oscar Duarte. While appreciating Devin Haney, ‘KingRy’ claimed that he could still defeat him nonetheless. He closed his message with a call out for a fight next year. When the question popped up during the post-fight press conference, ‘The Dream’ shared what ran through his mind.

Devin Haney versus Ryan Garcia—sure,  why not? ‘The Dream’ responds

Sounding equally gung-ho, Devin Haney explained how he wanted to churn out big fights for the fans. One of the reporters had asked for his thoughts on fighting Ryan Garcia and if he plans to stay at 140 pounds. ‘The Dream’ responded that he had been calling out ‘KingRy’ for such a long time. He said, “I think that’s a that’s a possibility that’s a a mega fight um you know, I’ve been calling out Ryan for years now, so it’s, uh, it’s good to hear that you know he finally won a fight. It sucks that it came after you know he took a ‘L.

However, Devin Haney explained that ultimately it is only a matter of time before Ryan Garcia responded to his shout-outs. Haney concluded by saying that it was all about building up massive contests and that he had always been interested in large, mega-fights.

Sowing the seeds of a fight

It seems Ryan Garcia has been fairly busy on X/Twitter throughout the day. First, he mentioned fighting the winner of the fight between Devin Haney and Regis Prograis.

Then, a minute later, he asked whether he should go after Devin Haney first or pursue Rolando Romero.

Then responding back, he said that given he had a bout in December, it is least likely Devin Haney would be back by March, the time when he returns to the ring. He’s fine with the idea if ‘The Dream’ turns up. Otherwise, it would be him and ‘Rolly’ Romero facing off in March.

Then came the fourth tweet. Ryan Garcia said that he is fairly sure about him and Devin Haney fighting it out in 2024. Followers could depend on him for the prediction to come true. If the Almighty doesn’t desire it, the fight may never come to fruition.

Soon after he spoke about the Aussie sensation Liam Paro, Ryan Garcia wrote that undoubtedly Devin Haney was quite competent. However, he revealed that he knew him so well that he would defeat him resolutely. Then, lauding Haney’s win, ‘KingRy’ mentioned that in the new year, they would definitely make it happen.

However, he wasn’t done. Once again, taking to his X/Twitter handle, Ryan Garcia said that it was one of the finest performances from Devin Haney. However, it was still at a level where merely watching his matches would put most of the viewers to sleep. Garcia continued, “I know what he’s missing. He can have it one day, but he don’t have it right now. Make your  assumptions; I can’t wait to get it active with him!!!!”

Both Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney have known each other for a long time. They have been rivals since their amateur days. Reportedly, they fought six times, and each boxer won three bouts. However, they have never squared up against each other after turning professionals. Now that both are in the same division, a match-up seems within reach. Without a doubt, alongside a few others, the fight has all the ingredients to make it one of the marquee events of 2024.
