It is widely known that boxing legend Mike Tyson had a history of drug abuse. In his documentary, The Undisputed Truth Tyson revealed that he used drugs like c****ne during his career that only became more rampant after his retirement.

However, back in 2013, Iron Mike tried to kick back his habits in a very unlikely way that helped him get his life back on track.

Mike Tyson reveals how he kicked his drug addiction

In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Tyson stated that a strict vegetarian diet helped him overcome his drug addiction. He claimed that this diet helped him lose over 100 pounds and even get his blood pressure stabilized.

“Becoming a vegan gave me another opportunity to live a healthy life. I was so congested from all the drugs and bad c***ne, I could hardly breathe, [I had] high blood pressure, [was] almost dying [and had] arthritis. And once I became a vegan, all that stuff diminished.” said Tyson.

Moreover, he also added that his lifestyle leading to this was not an ideal one and that he had to use these measures to overcome this unhealthy lifestyle. “Too many prison cells, too many jails, too many lawsuits, too many bankruptcies, too many women, too many venereal diseases, too many everything. I got tired of every time my p*****te girl got back from a trip, I had to sleep with her. I’m going to live a different life.” He added.

Tyson has been through a lot of hardships throughout his life and drugs were a coping mechanism for him. However, Tyson realized that this lifestyle would only harm him in the long run and wisely decided to change it

The looming shadow of drugs over Tyson

Tyson had been exposed to drugs throughout his life. He has revealed that his mother was often under the influence of alcohol. Moreover, his biological father was a drug dealer. This shadow of drugs over Tyson plagued him throughout his childhood and also later in his life.

However, he realized this later on in his life and consciously made efforts to change. Tyson deserves praise and appreciation for overcoming hardships and not falling victim to an unhealthy lifestyle.
