For many boxers, 2021 was a decorated year, but this wasn’t the case for the boxing star, Ryan Garcia. He started the year on a high note, and many expected him to keep a sublime run for the rest of 2021 as well. However, the young gun went through some dark times wherein nothing went right for him.

Recently, he was in a chat with Compubox TV. Here, ‘King Ry’ opened up on everything that he went through in his terrible phase.

He said, “When I was deep in it, I didn’t think I was gonna live. I was so passive, and I went to bad habits. I started drinking and I never drink ever, but I was getting drunk all the time. I wanted to kill myself at one point. I was so paralyzed in my mind, I couldn’t get out of it.”

Ryan Garcia opened his boxing run in 2021 after defeating Luke Campbell in a massive setting. He outclassed the Briton with an electrifying body shot. With that, Garcia also won the WBC interim strap, and he seemed perfectly on the line to meet his foe, Devin Haney, to challenge him for his WBC lightweight title.

But Garcia was aligned for a different fight and he couldn’t take on the same citing mental health concerns. As a result, he got stripped of his title.

Later on, he even succumbed to a hand injury and, once again, Garcia was out of another fight. However, he’s put all that behind and is now focused on the future.
