The boxing realm is not just competitive for its fighters. A tougher, more strained rivalry exists when it comes to boxing promotions. Against this backdrop, Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) and Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) are some of the leaders on the scene. However, which one outperforms the other? An expert thinks the former.

Both GBP and PBC have been in hot water for a while now. Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions has been embroiled in a dispute with its marquee fighter Ryan Garcia. Meanwhile, Al Haymon’s PBC lost its key fighter, Canelo Alvarez, from their roaster. That led to many questioning its worth in the sport. When further juxtaposed analytically, the vocal Rick Glaser had some important points to make.

Golden Boy Promotions vs. PBC: “A Little Math”

On his X, formerly Twitter, The International Boxing House of Fame Elector, Rick Glaser made a clear distinction between GBP and PBC. He explained, “Lets do alittle math, in the first 4 months of the year, #PBC will have one show, #TszyuThurman March 30, & #GoldenBoy will have 8 shows in that same time period.Contrary to what some want to believe, #GBP is a very well run company. By the way, I used simple math so more people would understand.” Let’s look at this diatribe in detail.

It’s not been an easy run for PBC. The company’s PPV partner, Showtime Boxing wrapped up its operation last December. That led it to team up with Amazon Prime for its PPV needs. The shakeup resulted in a pause in getting its fights rolling. Its last one was the David Morrel Jr. vs. Sena Agbeko on December 16th. However, come March 30, for its first headliner with Amazon Prime, Tim Tsyzu will face off against Keith Thurman.

Meanwhile, GBP has remained constant in delivering big fights. Be it the latest January 27 fight between Jaime Mungia and John Ryder or the one before that between Ryan Garcia and Oscar Duarte (December 2nd), the De La Hoya-led company has remained on top of its game. Furthermore, April 20th will be a big night for the company as it promotes the anticipated New York fight between ‘KingRy’ and Devin Haney.

While PBC might be lagging in this race, a fight scheduled for the 4th of May might be the company’s holy grail to power through its inactivity.

A Grand Event for Canelo Alvarez

Earlier, when Canelo parted ways from PBC, having completed only one fight of the three inked in his contract, multiple doubts were levied. One remained, why? It was understood that the company did not have the risk-taking bandwidth to promote its fight against Jermall Charlo after the change of its PPV partners. However, despite their split, the fighter and the promotions company will come together for a massive headliner.

On the 4th of May, at the iconic T-Mobile Arena of Las Vegas, the undisputed super middleweight will defend his titles against his Mexican counterpart, Jaime Munguia. The fight has been finalised under his own promotions company with PPV rights handed over to the PBC x Amazon Prime association. Since Jaime Munguia is Golden Boy Promotions’ prospect, this mega headliner will see the PBC joining hands with GBP to make this event a reality.
