Fannon International Boxing channel, a forum for ‘avid boxing fans,’ as it describes itself, released a video yesterday. The almost ten-minute video talks about allegations of fixing fights, especially the one between Rolando Romero and Ismael Barroso on May 13, by none other than former world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. A questionable and disputed ninth-round technical win for Romero settled the bout’s fate.
After last year’s loss to Gervonta Davis, twenty-seven-year-old Romero moved up to the 140-pound division. Then, on February 8, a fight came about to grab the Dominican Alberto Puello‘s WBA belt. Unfortunately, however, Puello failed to clear a drug test on April 19. It turned him into a champion-in-recess and brought in Barroso as a replacement for the now-vacant title. But the amused fans had none of it and barged in with their opinions.

That’s too far-fetched an allegation against Floyd Mayweather Jr.; Fans react
One user stated matter-of-factly that had he been Floyd Mayweather Jr., he would have had a defamation suit filed for such allegations. “If [I] was [Floyd I’ll] sue that for defamation,” he wrote.
According to a user named Alberto Green, Mayweather Jr. is a genuine boxing aficionado; way too much to even consider manipulating a match. “Mayweather is too much of a fanatic of boxing to be able to even think of fixing a fight. Another round, and Barroso would have been knocked out anyway. So let’s not blame it on Floyd,” he said.
Another user seems irked and wonders whether moving forward, everything that goes badly in boxing is Mayweather Jr.’s or AI’s (Artificial Intelligence) fault! He said, “Now every “negative” experience in boxing is Floyd’s or Al’s doing?!?! Ppl are very immature and irresponsible with their claims.”

A user named Derrick Perkins agrees that the stoppage was ‘bogus’. But for that, he won’t point fingers at Mayweather Jr. or AI. Instead, there were occasions where the former has been shortchanged on scorecards. For instance, during the fight with ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. “I do think it was a BS stoppage, but Im not [going] to say it was Mayweather and Al. Because its been times when Mayweather was getting robbed on the cards. Ex against Canelo.”
The following user also claims he won’t jump into empty claims and allegations without evidence. “I don’t like to make accusations without proof, but that robbery stoppage was definitely corrupted for sure due to how referee Tony Weeks jump in to stop the fight immediately when Rolly was missing all those wild punches [at] the end to the [40-year-old] cab driver,” they wrote.

It is interesting to note that when the fight stopped, Barroso ran rings around Romero, as far as the overall number of total and power punches went. More so, he stood ahead of the American boxer in the scorecards of all three judges. What’s your take on the reactions? Do share your views and thoughts with us in the comments sections below.
