The House of Representatives debated on a crucial issue relating to gender on April 20th, 2023. It concluded with the passing of the “Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act”. This bill had every Republican voting in favor of it, while every Democrat voted against it. Interestingly, during the debate, the US Representative, Ralph Norman, also dragged the name of the boxing legend, Mike Tyson, into his argument. He spoke against the involvement of trans athletes in women’s sports and he asked a rather interesting question to the US Representative sitting in opposition, Mark Takano.

After the passing of this bill, the US Constitution will undergo revisions in the Title IX legislation. It talks about the prohibition of any kind of “discrimination on the basis of sex in educational programs and activities that receive federal funding“.
Well, this spurred a lot of conversations across the internet. Many netizens even clipped the question asked by Ralph Norman, where he took Mike Tyson’s name as an example to substantiate his argument. Even big names in the sporting world liked the video that has been circulating like wildfire on various social media sites.

Renowned sports athletes share the same opinion on Trans-athletes’ involvement in women’s sports debate
For a long time, transgender locker room incidents have been reported all over social media. Mainly because a lot of trans women don’t have separate locker rooms and toilets for them. This led to the recent debate at the House of Representatives, and the conversation veered towards other trans-athlete-related issues.
During that debate, Ralph Norman asked Mark Takano, “Should Mike Tyson, have you heard of him?” Takano nodded and said, “Yes“. So, Norman further continued, “If he identifies as a female, should he be allowed to enter a boxing match with a biological female?”

This clip went viral, and one Instagram handle, House of Fight, posted a video of this clip. Then the particular segment in the video instantly transitions to Mike Tyson dressed as a woman inside the boxing ring. The Tyson segment is from the film, Scary Movie 4. It’s where one of the main characters, Cindy, had to fight with the female Mike Tyson. Even Mike Tyson once expressed his views on trans athletes.
