Post the fight, when journalists quizzed him regarding his future plans, he elaborated on his choice to fight only professional fighters hereon, pushing him closer to a cruiserweight title fight. Eddie Hearn evaluates Jake Paul’s path to titles
The promoter was present at the Arizona fight between Jessie Rodriguez and Sunny Edwards, where he was stopped by journalists for a quick conversation. While he touched upon various beats, one was extremely crucial, his stance on Jake Paul and his recent win over August. Answering a journalist’s inquiry on the knockout victory, Hearn remarked, “Yeah, I mean… I think you would’ve beaten Andre August, but it’s still an impressive knockout. You know I mean if he goes in there and well, I think he’s improving. I think he punches quite hard, but how that guy is nine or ten and one, I mean.”
Another journalist asked Hearn to suggest Paul’s route to a titular fight as his hypothetical promoter. In a brutal yet promising response, the promoter remarked, “So there maybe someone who is a little bit more legitimate. If you want to start saying you actually wanna win world title, sooner or later, you’re going to fight someone in the top 15 of a governing body. Anybody at cruiserweight at top 15 will crush Jake Paul to pieces, but he’s fun to watch.”
With that, Eddie Hearn seems to be cautioning the Problem Child to stay away from the top champions in the divisions. Paul, however, seems to be ahead of the curve. With his eyes set on a cruiserweight title, he has now shown interest in Viddal Riley.

Paul is keen to fight Viddal Riley
After securing a comfortable win over August, a journalist asked him about fighting someone like Viddal Riley. Excited at the prospect of facing Riley, Paul said, “For sure, that can happen. That would be interesting and he has a name, a profile, and that’s something that excites me for sure.”
In response, the British Cruiserweight titleholder Riley has also shown interest in fighting Paul. In a TikTok post, he gave his response, saying, “I think it would be one of the biggest fights probably, in boxing history.” Hearn’s input on this front might hold some shade, but he’s not wrong. Careful deliberation is the key that can push Paul toward his ambition of a title fight. The Riley clash is a big gamble. Judging from his win over August, Jake Paul just might be getting there.
