In Monaco, Ramla Ali kicked off the night’s action with a remarkable performance, securing a victory over Julissa Alejandra Guzman in their super bantamweight rematch. Previously knocked out by Guzman in a stunning June bout, she displayed her career best while outpointing her opponent. In one of his older clips, which Ramla posted on her Instagram story, the ‘Greatest’ is speaking about why he fights with such vigor. In the clip, Ali states, “Make me stronger, not for me. Don’t give me no money, don’t give me the fame. I wanna win so I can come home and speak for the brothers living in rat-infested houses, sleeping on concrete in the ghetto; can go on television and speak. So God, I’m your tool, I’m your servant. Let me get this man tonight and go out blasting”

Ali believed he could flip the cards for his community through his fame and influence. While life in the ghettos is full of uncertainty and dangers, he believed God had given him the gift of being able to knock down his opponents. There must be a reason for it. The reason, according to him, was to create a better space and life for his community. This benevolent and vehement purpose has given Ramla Ali the resolve that she needed to take Guzman down.

Ramla Ali’s revenge

At the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Guzman delivered a spectacular performance. She defeated Ali by knockout in the eighth round to claim the World Boxing Association (WBA) Continental Americas super bantamweight title. Guzman’s powerful left hook ended the fight. This marks one of the year’s standout knockouts. The victory propelled Guzman’s career, leaving her with a record of 13 wins, 2 losses, 2 draws, and 7 knockouts, while Ali’s record stood at 8 wins and 1 loss.

Ali finally had her revenge. In a strategic battle, the Somalian fighter and Guzman engaged in a super bantamweight rematch in Monaco. Despite Guzman’s aggressive start, Ali adapted, using precise right hands and improved footwork to outmaneuver her opponent. Ali’s smart boxing and strategic movements led her to a unanimous victory. The judges scored the fight 96-94 in her favor after ten rounds.
