It has been fourteen years since Oscar De La Hoya retired from professional boxing. At the time of his retirement, De La Hoya was 35 and had a record of 39 wins and 6 losses. De La Hoya, having retired as a competing athlete from the sport, focused solely on Golden Boy Promotions and so far has had quite a lucrative career as a promoter in boxing. De La Hoya is 49 and is currently looking forward to collaborating with Floyd Mayweather at a future event.

The current number one junior middleweight ranking boxer, Jermall Charlo, recently announced a list of boxers he would like to face soon. The individuals that he mentioned included the likes of Demetrius Andrade, David Benavidez, Chris Eubank Jr., and, surprisingly, the CEO and chairman of Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar De La Hoya.

Prior to calling out Oscar De La Hoya, Jermall Charlo expressed his willingness to square off with the one and only Gennady Golovkin. In his opinion, Golovkin was simply wasting his time by fighting Canelo Alvarez for the third time in his pro career. Just when fans could smell the fragrance of a potential Golovkin vs Charlo fight, Charlo announced his list of other names.
