Michelle Joy Phelps caught up with Leonard Ellerbe in Las Vegas. The conversation began with the tentative return of Gervonta Davis. Almost every boxing fan eagerly awaits his return. Ellerbe clarified that he was not in a position to confirm the precise details.

Then the boxing presenter asked, Ellerbe, “Jermell Charlo went and surprised the world …everyone thought it was [going to] be (Jermall), but here he is daring to be great he’s daring to be great he’s he’s doing what most people wouldn’t do um, but he’s also not getting. I wouldn’t say too many people believe that he can beat Canelo. What’s your thoughts for that?” The Mayweather Promotions boss clarified that anything might happen. However, he could confidently say that the ‘Iron Man’ is optimistic that he will beat Alvarez.

Michelle Joy Phelps added that many seemed to exaggerate the size difference between the two champions. Even though there wasn’t much difference, Leonard Ellerbe explained that followers might have been startled when they heard the news of Jermell Charlo moving up two weight divisions. But the fact remains that he moves around in a weight where Alvarez has already proven himself strong despite his short stature. The bout, otherwise, remains worth a watch.

Regarding the big showdown, Ellerbe said, “But it’s gonna be a terrific fight, man. It’s going, it’s I think that that fight is [going to] be like a fight of the year kind of thing. I think that, as you know, both guys [have] something to prove they got both guys got something to prove and I…I’m a firm believer that this fight is not going the distance. Somebody’s getting knocked out….

Returning after a seven-month hiatus, albeit with hardship, Alvarez wound up the second title defense successfully against John Ryder in May. He was long interested in pursuing the unfinished business with Dmitry Bivol. Then, there was an offer from David Benavidez as well. Initially, news came about that he would face Jermall Charlo for his comeback fight. But as it turned out, surprising many, his twin brother eventually became the challenger to face the undisputed Super Middleweight champion.
