A southpaw boxer, Caroline Dubois, kept her left hand visibly away from her chin, but almost always loaded and on the same level as her temple. She fought with a wide stance and at all times searched to bait in that left hand, encouraged by that busy right. The sooner you land, the faster you gain your confidence. And the faster you want ‘control’, the more you shall strike.

In amateur boxing where you are not fighting for 10 or 12 rounds, the most shared of all characteristics is the urgency to land sooner, and with as much quantity as possible. One may definitely say that Caroline Dubois still fights like an amateur, given how she throws a 4 or 5-punch combo; most of the time she is engaging. Despite being only 21, she shows enough maturity to understand the limitations of her opponent’s reach and has the patience to bait in that one crucial left or active right.

In 2018, in Buenos Aires, Caroline Dubois, at the mere age of 17, became the Youth Olympic Champion. Certainly, this victory in Buenos Aires brought her global attention. She turned pro in February of the present year and is right now 2-0. Almost ten days away from her next fight, Dubois recounts her tale of the beginning.

“I told my dad I wanted to box, and he’s not one to mess around. If you want to box, you have to go the hard way. Repton was the hardest boxing club around in London, especially at the time, and they have some tough spars and they don’t take it easy there,” she said.

“We walked into the gym and it was a boys-only club so we knew beforehand what we had to say and I said my name was Colin and they just believed it,” she adds.
