It seems like next year, Canelo Alvarez will have his hands full. The undisputed champion, now the only male boxer to hold the honor, had two successful title defenses this year. Then, at a personal level, the passion closest to his heart kept him engaged. In May, a few days after he defeated John Ryder, he hosted a golf tournament in Huixquilucan, State of Mexico. As it appears for now, until he decides to leap up a division in 2024, the Mexican icon would have to enter the ring again for another title defense.
Alvarez has a few options to pick from. However, he already has a mandatory challenger in David Benavidez to begin with. It’s a line-up; fans and followers have been clamoring for quite a while. Now, whether Alvarez finally gives in to public demand, time alone will tell. Anyway, whatever the goings-on in boxing, one thing is for sure: he wouldn’t miss golf for the world. Like this year, fans would see him switch boxing trunks and gloves with urbane golf attire. No wonder, early today, Canelo Alvarez shared a few details about his golf tournament through Instagram stories.

It carried a picture posted initially by @torneonogoldnolife. In the 2023 tournament, footballers such as Luis Garcia, Jorge Campos, and baseball player Jorge Cantu graced the occasion. Just over $500 was required to participate in the No Golf, No Life competition. It used a Low Ball 50/50 handicap pair format. The fee basically covered a welcome kit, all-course food and drink, and the awards banquet. Aside from the surprise giveaways, winners took home fantastic prizes. For instance, Maserati for hole-in-one winner.
Like he does in boxing, Canelo Alvarez is giving his best to golf. He is reported to be very diligent about improving his game. One of the icons he closely follows is none other than Tiger Woods.

Understanding Alvarez’s future action following the Benavidez victory
Getting back to boxing, with David Benavidez’s out-and-out victory over Demetrius Andrade, the big question looms large over Canelo Alvarez. For how long is he going to put the fight with the big Arizonian on the back burner? Sooner or later, he might have to come up with a discernible response. He has already fought the first fight of the $100 million 3-fight PBC deal. Hence, two fights remain in hand. There are options galore, such as a grudge fight with Jermall Charlo or, who knows, a square-off with Terence Crawford, provided he jumps up three divisions.
