To qualify, individuals must declare their gender identity as female, and maintain their testosterone levels below a specified threshold. Also, the contenders must have undergone “gender reassignment surgery.” This policy marks a significant development in the sporting landscape. This has prompted a response from the former unified super featherweight champion Mikaela Mayer.

Mikaela Mayer addressed the new transgender policy

For transgender boxers (male to female) seeking to compete, stringent regulations are in place to ensure a fair and safe environment. A crucial criterion mandates that their total testosterone levels remain below 5 nmol/L for a minimum of 48 months. Beyond this initial period, the scrutiny continues with mandatory quarterly hormone testing. These athletes must diligently provide USA Boxing with documentation verifying their hormone levels for an extended duration.

However, Mikaela Mayer has raised the question of how hormonal therapy is banned in the sport of boxing. So what they’re proposing is actually illegal. In her X app, she wrote, “Hormone therapy is banned. By default this should make trans athletes ineligible for competition. Period. Doesn’t matter how you feel about the situation, fact is, it’s illegal & completely disrupts the even level playing field that sport works so hard to create.
