The year 2023 has been filled with hardships and betrayal for Ryan Garcia. He received the first loss of his career at the hands of Gervonta Davis in their highly anticipated bout. Moreover, he and his promoter Oscar De La Hoya fell apart as Garcia felt betrayed after being left alone during the post-match conference after the Gervonta Davis fight. This event ended up with him suing Golden Boy Promotions.
However, as the year moves towards its end, Garcia is once again going to return to the ring and under the banner of the same promotion as well. Though Garcia has anything but forgiven his promoter, as was apparent in his recent press conference. Thus it can be seen that Garcia has a lot of distractions on his mind going into such an essential comeback fight. But legendary Hall of Fame boxer Shane Mosely believes that this might be a good thing for Garcia.

Ryan Garcia could follow Mosely’s footsteps
In the upcoming fight between Ryan Garcia and Duarte, it’s anticipated that Garcia will secure a victory and advance to the next bout. Despite this outlook, Shane Mosley Jr. finds it intriguing how distractions surrounding Garcia could impact the match. Recently, while speaking to FightHype, he stated, “It’s kind of interesting, it’s supposed to be a fight where Ryan Garcia is supposed to win and move on the next fight. But I do think that Duarte is a tough fighter and you have to take him serious.”
Acknowledging Duarte as a formidable opponent, Mosley emphasizes the need to take him seriously. Reflecting on his own experiences, Mosley noted, “A lot of distractions have been going on with Ryan Garcia, which could be a distraction and also could be a positive too.”
Drawing parallels to his encounter with Margarito, Mosley turned distractions into motivation, saying, “I turned it into a positive and fought even harder. It made me a little more angrier.” He suggests that Garcia might benefit similarly, using distractions as fuel to prove critics wrong and secure a remarkable victory. Before the fight, Antonio Margarito was caught having Plaster of Paris under his bandage. A deed which caused pundits to question his previous fights as well. It seems that infuriated by Margarito’s attempt to cheat, Mosley channeled it into rage and used it to knock him down to become a champion.
As Garcia faces external pressures, Mosley’s perspective offers a nuanced view, highlighting the potential for adversity to spur a positive outcome. The bout becomes not just a physical test but a mental and emotional challenge that Garcia could navigate to his advantage.
Garcia blasts De La Hoya and Hopkins ahead of the fight
In a recent interview with Boxing News, Ryan Garcia opened up about his upcoming fight, reflected on his loss to Gervonta Davis, and the current state of his relationship with Oscar De La Hoya. Garcia emphasized that his primary focus lies on the imminent battle rather than the ongoing legalities. Garcia stated, “I really haven’t even been spending any time thinking about that. That’s for lawyers and everybody else to think about. I don’t need to think about any of that.”

He maintained that his energy is channeled towards training and preparation, leaving the legal matters for the concerned professionals. Nevertheless, the tension between Garcia and Golden Boy Promotions was palpable during the press conference where he took direct shots at De La Hoya and Bernard Hopkins. Garcia expressed dissatisfaction with the promotion, accusing De La Hoya of siding with his opponent in the upcoming fight.
