Anthony Joshua has only managed to get a breath of fresh air and achieve two back-to-back victories after suffering two consecutive losses at the hands of heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. After being counted out for so long, AJ finally appears to be ready to stake his claim again as the top dog of the division. Although, Robert Helenius failed to push Joshua to the limits after he replaced Dillian Whyte much to the fans’ disappointment.

Moreover, his bout against hard-hitting Deontay Wilder which was poised to be one of the biggest fights this year, was pushed back to possibly January next year. As the talks of the much-anticipated fight still linger on, AJ took the chance to reveal his bad intentions for WBC champion Tyson Fury as well. It appears Joshua has managed to find a weakness in the champ that he is ready to exploit.

Anthony Joshua has confessed to watching Tyson Fury’s Netflix series to gain insights into his potential opponent and fellow Briton. “At Home With The Fury’s,” released this summer, and explores the life of the WBC heavyweight champion and his family in Morecambe. It specifically focuses on Fury’s comeback from retirement in 2022, highlighting his return to the ring in December, where he defeated Dereck Chisora once more. Fury is scheduled to face Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia on October 28 and subsequently Oleksandr Usyk at an undisclosed date in Saudi Arabia to determine the undisputed heavyweight champion. While discussing the Netflix series with Men’s Health, Joshua, 33, shared, “I am on episode six, I’m enjoying it. I like his kids, they’re so funny. His wife is loyal, so supportive. I am partly watching it because it gives me an insight that maybe I can use if we do fight.”

Joshua also mentioned that he could exploit Fury’s “mental issues” if they were to fight. Moreover, he added, “They say I am mentally weak. He definitely has mental issues. 100% [I would exploit that if we fight]. It’s like going to war.”

Tyson Fury no longer deems Joshua as a potential opponent

It appears that even though Joshua might be looking to make a fight against ‘The Gypsy King’, the latter doesn’t think the same. Recently, Fury, conveyed a clear message to him, stating that Joshua is no longer a contender for a match against the ‘Gypsy King’ and should accept his position at the end of the line. For years, there had been discussions about a potential showdown between the two British heavyweights. At one point, it seemed like a fight between them could have marked a significant moment in boxing history. However, things have changed.

Fury’s attitude towards Joshua has shifted dramatically, particularly due to Joshua’s less-than-convincing victories after his defeat to Andy Ruiz Jr. in 2019. Fury now dismisses Joshua as a “big bum dosser” with multiple losses, making it clear that he no longer considers Joshua a worthy opponent. In his words, “The fight is off the cards, it’s gone, dead. The fight was off the cards when he got beat.” Fury’s message is clear: Joshua is no longer a contender. The prospect of a showdown between them has lost its allure.

Overall, it seems that with two huge fights on his hands, Joshua is not in Fury’s crosshairs at the moment. Though he might end up changing his stance in the future;  as things stand now, the fight seems to have zero chance of materializing. What do you think about Joshua’s statement?
