Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather stands as a symbol of boxing excellence. However, recently, he has become the subject of a heated debate. A video titled “Floyd Mayweather was bad for the sport” has ignited controversy. It accuses the legendary boxer of negatively impacting the sport. Is Mayweather to blame for boxing’s perceived decline? Is this an attempt to tarnish the legacy of an all-time great? Indeed, the arguments must be explored.

Few stars in the world of boxing shine as brightly as Floyd Mayweather. His magnificent prowess, opulent lifestyle, and business acumen mark the sport. Yet, not everyone sees his legacy positively. In the video, the Youtuber argues that Mayweather’s focus on money has hurt boxing. They say his fame has led to a “sh**ty” impact. However, fans and experts disagree. They are defending Mayweather and claim it’s not his fault at all.

Did Floyd Mayweather negatively influence boxing?

Floyd Mayweather’s presence still dominates the boxing world, even in retirement. Where his recent exhibition matches draw huge audiences, his popularity endures. Furthermore, his deep interest in recent developments in boxing shows his continued engagement in the sport. However, in the video, the YouTuber, ShowBizz The Adult threw a peculiar light on Pretty Boy’s career.

He emphasized the fact that Mayweather crafted his legacy which subsequently generated his staggering wealth. However, boxers today only see the luxurious aspect of him and not the blood, sweat, and tears that generated this wealth for him. Furthermore, he reiterated how this attitude is creating a negative influence.

As he said, “Floyd Mayweather is one of the greatest ever but the way he impacted the game made boxing shi**y. It’s not that Floyd was a shi*ty boxer; he’s an all-time great. His influence resonated and made people try to be Money Mayweather before being pretty boy, and that’s how he negatively impacted the sport. Though he did it properly, Floyd got a crazy resume, all-time great fighter, legendary fighter. The guy was magnificent, went about his career like a boss. It’s just that everybody wanted to be money.”

However, Money’s loyal fans came to his defense.

How did Mayweather’s fans defend him?

Victor Osim starts the conversation by pointing out, “Fighters want to be money Mayweather before being pretty boy Floyd.” Jay agrees, adding, “Exactly!!! And like you said it’s not his fault at all. People only see & know ‘money,’ kind of like society now. People wanna skip all the steps, the whole journey, and just skip right to the ‘money’ part, but I will say his nickname being money, him not losing a fight & becoming the highest paid fighter ever didn’t help.”
Meanwhile, Alex observes a positive aspect, stating, “Boxers are now earning and leading their careers. The Floyd Mayweather effect.” Then, Magalin chimes in with a critical perspective, declaring, “Facts. Floyd’s resume is insane, but holy s**t, these guys thinking they deserve more money or s**t when they haven’t fought s**t yet.”
Furthermore, Raqeem brings a historical context, asserting, “As They Should Want To Be Money May. Especially Black Fighters Who Were Historically Robbed and Forced To Throw Fights, Money An More. Floyd Jr Was What The Sport Needed And That’s A Reality.”
The debate over Mayweather’s impact on boxing is complex. Critics accuse him of hurting the sport whereas fans and experts defend his legacy. They argue his influence is positive. Mayweather’s focus on skill, strategy, and money shapes modern boxing. It resonates with all the fans. Whether you agree or disagree, Mayweather’s legacy as one of the greatest fighters stands firm.
