Is it going to be an exhibition fight or a pro-boxing bout? The question continues to nag the Mike Tyson and Jake Paul clash. The 57-year-old former heavyweight champion will meet the 27-year-old YouTuber-turned-boxer on July 20 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. However, during an exclusive on Fox News, ‘The Problem Child’ spilled the beans about how both he and ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson would rather have the fight.

There have been concerns over the sheer age difference between the two. Nevertheless, the fight has received considerable attention over reports touching on varied rules. They range from wearing headgear to gloves usage and absence to judges scoring the fight. Announcing a shift in his approach, ‘The Problem Child’ has been fighting professional boxers since last year. Last month, he knocked out former Golden Gloves champion Ryan Bourland in the first round of their match. However, by any stretch of imagination, the Mike Tyson fight would be different from the ones he has fought so far. So are they going to slug it out as professional boxers do? Or will it be akin to an exhibition? Fighting purely for entertainment purposes, akin to ‘Iron’ Mike’s 2020 battle against Roy Jones Jr.

For Jake Paul, it’s bloodshed all the way

Speaking on the ‘Jesse Watters Primetime’ on Fox News Live, ‘The Problem Child’ replied, “Yeah, man, it’s so annoying. People on the internet will believe anything they see or hear. There’s been so much misinformation.” The conservative political commentator had wanted to know whether the face-off with Tyson was an exhibition. Jesse Watters wanted to know the truth. Of late, there has been a lot of controversy with regard to the matter.

Jake Paul then shared that both he and the former heavyweight champion actually want the fight to be a pro-boxing match. “Mike and I want this to be a pro fight with full face shots. We are submitting that request to the commission. It’s an all-out war. There have been all these fake videos about not being able to hit each other, big gloves, all of that stuff, and it’s all, as Trump would say, fake news,” the Ohioan explained.

More to it than meets the eye: Mike Tyson

Sean Hannity, the host of the Fox News channel show ‘Hannity’ asked, There’s been a lot of rumors out there about the fight that may be you gonna have 18-ounce gloves, you gonna be wearing headgears, any truth in it?” The youngest heavyweight champion in history replied, “No, not true at all…not true, not true, no true. Listen, this is called an exhibition. But if you look up exhibition, you will not see any of the those laws that we’re fighting under. This is a fight.

Roughly a year after he retired from professional boxing, ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson participated in a non-scoring exhibition fight. Then it took nearly fourteen years for him to get back to the ring. On November 28, 2020, he fought Roy Jones Jr. for an eight-round exhibition fight. So he would be returning to the ring after a gap of nearly four years. Hence, no wonder, there are equal concerns over him taking on an active boxer.
