The punch outside the ring made him famous, or rather infamous. Dillon Danis could vouch for it. But with time running out for thirty-three-year-old Anthony Taylor, maneuvers without the ring are as significant as within. Even to the extent of going against the man whose cause led him to the Austin commotion.

Taking to Twitter, The Pretty Boy took potshots at the British Youtuber KSI. But, then, the ‘U’-turn falls into a frame showcasing him, taking on reality show participant, fitness influencer, and boxer Idris Virgo.

The exhibition is the main card event when KSI takes on Dillon Danis at the O2 arena in Wembley on 14th January.

Assuring KSI on handing over Idris a similar fate, a hapless Marvis Frazier met at the hands of a young Mike Tyson on 26th July 1986; Taylor checked for the feasibility of a fight with The Nightmare.

Doubts persist about whether The Pretty Boy’s shenanigans are a logical outcome of desperation to reach the boxing pinnacle. Or, unadulterated confidence in his skills drives the Alameda native.

But his boxing stats run contrary to that belief. Debuting in 2017, The Pretty Boy won only two boxing matches against a loss of three. Moreover, he lost the second bout in 2021 to Tommy Fury, a scion of the famous Fury clan.

On 13th November, he faced British television personality Jack Fincham on the undercard of the Mayweather- Olatunji fight. But much before the exhibition bout could kick off, Taylor made sure his name was on everyone’s lips by speaking out of turn during the press conference. He followed it up with an open-air wrestling duel with his opponent Fincham till the onlookers and security detail played spoilsport and separated them.

The KSI – Danis weigh-in at Austin was the icing on the cake. Anthony Taylor chased down Danis as the latter walked away after punching KSI on the stage. Though appreciated by a section of fans for taking a stand, the downright mockery of events outside the venue raised several questions.

In a hundred battles, you will never be in peril knowing the enemy and knowing yourself’, thus said Sun Tzu. Perhaps Taylor could reap some benefit from the timeless wisdom. With twelve wins against one draw, Idris stands out as a better boxer, at least on paper. Moreover, he won the last five fights consecutively.

Not in the good books of the oddsmaker; it would do Taylor good to focus and take each fight as it comes rather than over-egging the pudding.
