Barely two months shy of his eighteenth birthday, Ryan Garcia got the better of Edgar Meza on 9th June 2016. The technical win began a template that saw the Victorville, California native get past high-caliber boxers like Luke Campbell and Javier Fortuna.

Out of the twenty-three bouts he has fought so far, nineteen came his way through knockouts. Next year KingRy will probably face the biggest fight of his career. At a venue that organizers are yet to decide, he will take on current WBA (Regular) Lightweight champion Gervonta Davis on 15th April.

As much as he is busy preparing for the showdown, Ryan Garcia has never shied away from the limelight. With the body and face that may give a commercial model a run for his money, Ryan agreed to appear in the television commercials of sports-drink makers Gatorade in 2021. He is the first American boxer to do so.

Garcia enjoys going shopping and considers it the best way to indulge himself.

He declares, “I’m really into fashion. “It’s like a project for me. And I don’t half-a** anything. I have to try my hardest. That looks good; that don’t look good, OK.”

He enjoys visiting shops and trying out different items and outfits.

The Name is Garcia, Ryan Garcia

However, his latest caper rubbed the fans the wrong way. The James Bond impression drove quite a few fans up the wall. Many have expressed dismay towards his latest fashion post at a time when he should be busy preparing for the big fight against Gervonta Davis. The latter will fight Puerto Rican Hector Luis Garcia on 14th January, an engagement many treat as preliminary.

Reactions, barring a few supportive ones, hit the roof.

When KingRy and the Tank meet

In the first half of 2021, Ryan was preparing to face former WBA (Regular) Super Featherweight champion, Javier Fortuna from the Dominican Republic. However, he excused himself from the fight citing mental health challenges. As a result, the WBC Interim Lightweight title that Garcia won against Luke Campbell was held null and void.

The fight with Gervonta, even though not rewarding in terms of a title win, is all the more prestigious. They are two of the quickest hands in boxing, both household names with a loyal fan base.

Despite not being in the league of a Terence Crawford – Errol Spence Jr. or Tyson Fury versus Oleksandr Usyk, the KingRy – Tank fight holds an appeal to a broader audience base.
