On August 25, after Terence Crawford had defeated Errol Spence Jr. in July last year to become the undisputed Welterweight champion, the IBF ordered ‘Bud’ to begin negotiations with Jaron Ennis for a mandatory title defense. As per the IBF, Crawford and Ennis had to sign a deal by the 24th of September, 2023. However, since the Crawford-Spence bout had a rematch clause, ‘Bud’ could not agree to fight Ennis. As a result, ‘Boots’ received the IBF title Crawford was stripped of without a fight.

In February, in a letter to the representatives of Ennis and Cody Crowley, IBF championship chairman Carols Ortiz ordered ‘Boots’ to a mandatory title defense against ‘The Crippler’. As per the latest updates, there is finally a deal between Cody Crowley and Jaron Ennis.

Dan Rafael keeps the hope for Jaron Ennis vs. Cody Crowley alive

As per the initial letter by Carlos Ortiz to Jaron Ennis and Cody Crowley’s representatives, the fighters had to conclude a negotiation by March 1 of this year. “If you are unable to come to an agreement for this bout within the 30 days, the IBF will call for a purse bid,” Ortiz had added. On that note, after an agreement between Crowley and Ennis was reportedly reached, the bidding process was scheduled for March 26th i.e. today. However, Dan Rafael took to X and wrote that the purse bid for Ennis vs. Crowley got canceled.

But, soon in a follow-up, Rafael declared that a deal had been made for the fight. “Let’s see if Crowley actually signs and it happens,” he added. In this connection, one must mention that Cody Crowley currently has a record of 0 losses and 22 wins. His last fight was in March last year when the Canadian boxer faced Abel Ramos in Las Vegas. On the other hand, Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis is looking sharp with 31 victories.

Ennis’ last fight was against Roiman Villa in Atlantic City. Meanwhile, although they both have the same height, Ennis [74″] has a slight reach advantage against Crowley[72″].
