Last year in November, on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Jake Paul said he was open to fighting KSI. However, ‘The Problem Child’ had one condition – the fight had to take place at 185 lbs. On the other hand, KSI insisted the bout take place at 180 lbs with a rehydration clause. As a result, the fight did not come to fruition.

Meanwhile, Jake Paul moved on to fight Andre August in December 2023. And now, in a matter of hours, ‘The Problem Child’ will square off against Ryan Bourland in Puerto Rico on the undercard of Amanda Serrano vs. Nina Meinke. Ahead of Paul vs. Bourland, Jeff Mayweather who trained KSI, answered whether or not the CEO of Misfits would finally face Jake in the ring.

In the past, Jeff Mayweather told the media KSI was not a “real fighter” in the sense that the CEO of Misfits was not keen on earning his bread through boxing. In his opinion, KSI did sufficiently to fight fellow influencers. However, with Mayweather’s guidance, KSI faced Tommy Fury last year in October. Although the fight went the distance of six rounds, Fury defeated KSI. On that note, while KSI only fought Tommy as far as a “real” fighter was concerned, Jake Paul faced several UFC fighters including Nate Diaz, Anderson Silva, and Tyron Woodley.

Therefore, Jeff Mayweather said, “I think Jake has put in more work. And he has been fighting with a bunch of real fighters. Even if they were UFC fighters, he still is working hard on his craft. And he is becoming a good fighter.

KSI had one fight the last time I trained him. That was a year ago. If he is going to fight him, he’s going to have to start fighting again. He’s going to have to do something. I think he is giving Jake an edge by not being active,” added Mayweather thoughtfully.

As per Jeff’s statements, KSI is not too serious about making the fight with Jake happen. In Mayweather’s opinion, had KSI really wanted to fight Paul, the CEO of Misfits would have been as active as ‘The Problem Child’. With that said, do you think Jake Paul has become a better fighter than KSI? Let us know in the comments below.

I feel combat sport is a representation of life inside a cage or ring. There is fear, struggle, and the will to be free. It has a poetic quality.
