Tyson Fury and Derek Chisora are only moments away from participating in their trilogy fight. Fury, who had announced his retirement in April, is finally returning to the ring defending his WBC World Heavyweight title yet another time. Ahead of his 34th professional fight, BT Sport’s Steve Bunce asked Tyson Fury if there was any chance that the love and friendship he shared with Chisora came in his way of fighting him.

Alluding to Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali, Fury replied by saying, “It’s going to be a good fight like when Muhammad Ali was out of boxing, Joe Frazier was giving him money. Joe Frazier was looking after him.” Fury expressed how Frazier sustained Ali when the latter was financially ill and witnessing trying times out of boxing.

Despite Frazier looking after Ali, ‘The Greatest’ called the former “bad names” during the build-up of their fight. According to ‘The Gypsy King‘, Frazier was thoroughly upset by this ingratitude of Ali.
Joe Frazier took care of Muhammad Ali, but they fought each other bereft of mercy in the ring
Similar to Chisora and Fury, Frazier and Ali were good friends outside the ring. Frazier’s friendship exhibited compassion and helping hands that were stretched beyond the sport of boxing. While Ali faced suspension, Frazier loaned the former money.

“That’s why Joe was so upset when Ali called him all the bad names during the fight build-ups. Because he was literally broke, Ali; and Joe Frazier gave him money, kept him going, even fed him, looked after his bills, [and] everything,” added Fury by saying.

Tyson Fury emphasizes the competitive nature ahead of the third Derek Chisora fight
Despite their compassionate personal relationship, when Frazier fought Ali the two “beat the fu*k out of each other” in the ring. The manner in which they laboured that night “took a lot of brain cells away from them” stated Fury.

“When it comes to a fight their competitive nature will take over. You can imagine what I’ll do to Derek Chisora when he annoys me and we’re fighting for real,” said ‘The Gypsy King’.
