Joseph Diaz is already moving on to his next fight, probably against Oscar Duarte, right after the fifth loss of his career. Jesus Perez pulled off a major upset on February 15, defeating former super featherweight champion Joseph Diaz in a thrilling Golden Boy Fight Night on DAZN. The 10-round junior welterweight bout was a close and action-packed affair, with Diaz even receiving a point deduction for pushing Perez out of the ring.

In the end, the judges were split, with scores of 95-45, 94-96, and 90-99 awarding Perez a hard-fought victory. This win marked a significant moment in Perez’s career, propelling him into the spotlight of the boxing world. Meanwhile, JoJo is now looking to make his defeat against Perez look insignificant by making a successful play against an even bigger opponent. Now he’s hinted at who that next opponent just might be.

Joseph Diaz is now knocking at Oscar Duarte’s door, trying to make his next fight come to life. From the looks of it, it seems very much like a done deal. The news of their match-up was confirmed by Diaz on the X. Not only that, Joseph Diaz, has even issued a warning to Oscar Duarte of what he can expect in their upcoming matchup. He wrote, “Oscar Duarte my next opponent still waiting on date but I’m training hard and going to knock him out.”

Oscar Duarte, with this matchup, will be making a return to the ring following his first professional loss to Ryan Garcia in December last year. The fight at the Toyota Center in Houston was a close one for most of the eight rounds, but Garcia managed to find his rhythm in the final stages. A perfectly timed left hook capitalized on an opening from Duarte, sending him to the canvas with a decisive blow. However, he’s now in ties with Joseph Diaz for this next bout. As of now, they haven’t released the poster for this fight.

The ending of the Ryan Garcia fight for Oscar Duarte was slightly controversial. While Duarte technically rose to his feet before the referee’s ten count ended, James Green determined he wasn’t in a condition to continue. Boxing stoppages leave room for interpretation, and Green’s call, though not uncommon, suggested Duarte wasn’t fully recovered despite rising to his feet.

Whether Duarte wobbled too much or simply took too long to get up remains debatable, but the referee’s decision ultimately sealed Duarte’s fate. After the fight, Duarte said, “I feel like it was unfair. I still got up, I still felt like I could keep going,” Duarte said via an interpreter. “I was still complete and I could have kept going in the fight. I felt good. I got back up and I wanted to continue. I felt like I could keep going. I do hope I get to meet him again and get revenge.” So, he felt that he was robbed of a decision, and he doesn’t believe he was knocked out of the fight yet.
