“If you think you’re getting away, I will prove you wrong, I’ll take you all the way, boy, just come along, Hear me when I say, Hey, it’s murder on the dance floor, But you better not kill the groove, hey-hey, hey-hey.” It’s been 24 years since award-winning singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor scored a hit with this chart-topper. Thanks to the 2023 release ‘Saltburn,‘ the track surged back to the top once again. Looks like Joseph Parker is doing his part to bring this smash hit to an even bigger stage, the boxing world.
Only, the interim heavyweight champion used Ellis-Bextor’s classic not just to entertain but to take a cheeky jab at Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois. The two champions are slated to clash in a high-stakes showdown at Wembley on July 19. Reports suggest Parker could be next in line to face the winner. He was originally scheduled to fight Dubois on the Bivol-Beterbiev undercard. So as he prepares for what could be the most pivotal fight of his career, in his own unmistakable style, the New Zealand-born heavyweight decided to deliver a message.

Usyk and Dubois: The scene is set – are you ready?
“Waiting here on the Dance floor for the winner and all their belts 🕺🏼🥊,” Joseph Parker’s latest tweet read. In a minute-long clip, Parker transformed his gym into a dance floor. Joined by teammates, together they all vibe to Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s ‘Murder on the Dancefloor.’

Needless to say, the video quickly caught fire online. The hints were hard to miss. A clip of Dubois appeared right after the lyrics: “Oh, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, About your kind.” Moments later, the line “It’s murder on the dancefloor, but you better not kill the groove” played as footage showed Dubois famously shoving Usyk during their face-off in the stadium.
The video ends with yet another not-so-gentle reminder. Parker’s knockout of Martin Bakole, who had stepped in as a late replacement for Dubois, flashed across the screen. Impressed by both its humor and its message, fans have been heaping praise on the increasingly viral post.
For those curious, this isn’t Parker’s first foray into musical call-outs. He previously used Take That‘s ‘Back for Good’ to call out former rival Dillian Whyte.

Joseph Parker: Reaching for new heights
But beyond the laughs, Parker’s video carries a serious undertone. One that echoes what his promoter, Frank Warren, told Sky Sports: “With Joe Parker, the WBO just put a mandate out saying that the winner of this fight (Usyk v. Dubois) has to defend against the WBO mandatory challenger, which is Joe Parker.”

Interestingly, the WBO had previously ordered Usyk to defend his belt against Parker. To avoid purse bids, both camps had 30 days to strike a deal. But soon after, reports emerged that Usyk would instead face Dubois for the undisputed crown.
But despite missing the title fights against both men, Parker could be having the last laugh. With four belts on the line, his shot could be bigger than ever. Since suffering his first KO loss to Joe Joyce in 2022, Parker has been steadily rebuilding his resume. From Deontay Wilder, Zhilei Zhang, and most recently, Martin Bakole, the former WBO champion has taken out some serious contenders.
