Former middleweight titleholder Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is out of custody. According to the available information, the son of boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez secured a release after meeting bail conditions, which involved a sum of $50,000.

Last weekend, law enforcement authorities placed Chavez Jr. under arrest. They took him into custody on suspicion of possessing an illegal firearm. TMZ appears to have shared the information initially. Later, his father confirmed through his X/Twitter account. Additionally, the obligations require the former champion to enroll in a rehabilitation program with immediate effect. While Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. might find relief in being released from police detention, his challenges are far from over. In a parallel development, it is being reported that his spouse, Frida Munoz, has initiated divorce proceedings.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.: One setback tackled

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), TMZ reported, arrested Chavez Jr. last weekend by around 1.30 p.m. The officers who responded to a call reportedly found an assault rifle at his Sherman Oaks residence. They took him to the Van Nuys-located Valley Jail.

Speaking with the Los Angeles Times, the Mexico-born boxer’s lawyer said, “We posted bail, and Mr. Chavez will be released at some point today and will spend some time at a program working through some personal issues. In the meantime, Julio remains in good spirits, and his family appreciate the outpouring of support and encouragement.”

According to the TMZ’s report, the weapon police officials found falls under the category of a ‘ghost weapon.’ It is basically an unregistered firearm, and more often than not, it is difficult to track down. His lawyers emphasized that, concerning firearms, there are no previous instances associated with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. He reportedly entered a not-guilty plea. Also, he seems to have consented to a rehabilitation plan expected to commence immediately. Chavez Jr. needs to return by February 15 to face the court hearing.

Although not up to the level where his father stood, Chavez Jr. made a name for himself in the ring. However, his life outside of it, especially his struggles with substance abuse, has been under constant public scrutiny. Even though out of jail, ‘The Legend Continues’ could be staring at another tribulation.

Moves to Another

His wife, Frida Munoz, as it appears, has filed for divorce. She took the step when Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was still behind bars. Reportedly, the couple decided to part ways two years ago. According to an article on Marca, a representative from Munoz’s legal team reached out to Chavez Jr. to hand over the documents as he appeared before a judge at a Los Angeles County court.

Julio Cesar Chavez last fought on December 18, 2021. After suffering a defeat to Canelo Alvarez in 2017, he was absent from the ring for over two years. Though he returned, he faced defeats, including one to former UFC champion Anderson Silva.
