Laila Ali is not unfamiliar with the word ‘perseverance.’ For someone who had to struggle to even follow her dreams of boxing, she knows how hard it is for a woman to power through in sports. When the opportunity comes to boost the confidence of another woman on the same lines, she’s not one to back down. Just like she did for this woman who went through a groundbreaking fitness journey.

In 1999, after convincing her father, the Greatest, Muhammad Ali, who was not in favor of her boxing career, she entered the ring for the first time. At that point, the idea of a female boxer was a novelty in itself. However, a radical trailblazer in its truest sense, she fought a solid 8 years in the ring, retiring with a sterling 24-0 record. With so much to seek inspiration from as a female athlete, she used her platform to further empower a woman who managed to accomplish what most find difficult.

Impressed with her journey of losing weight, Laila Ali noted, “Ultimate self respect [purpe heart emoji].”

The video that Ali storied was reposted by the fitness enthusiast’s page, with its actual details dating back to July, last year. Infiger’s husband was in the military and his active life inspired her to adopt the same, to lead a fitter life.  After starting to exercise in May of 2021, she went under the knife for a gastric sleeve weight loss surgery, the same year. Furthermore, she got a tummy tuck to rid close to 8 pounds of excess skin. While most considered her to be a role model, there was also a set of critics who continued body shaming her.

To the naysayers, in an interview, she said, “These legs? These legs that used to carry around a 400-pound person? These same legs that have carried me into the gym, going nearly every day for the past two [years] so that I could lose 186 lbs.” No, I’m glad you made this comment to me because I can take it. I’m very confident.”
