Errol Spence Jr. had a magnificent victory over Danny Garcia to keep his IBF and WBC welterweight titles with himself. However, this wasn’t the outcome many expected after Spence Jr. had a life-changing car crash just over a year ago. He said to everyone that he is just as good as he was before that, and the win over Garcia was proof of his belief.

The win has naturally raised conversations about a possible super-fight against Terence Crawford. This is one matchup that boxing legend Lennox Lewis wants to see, and he openly called it out during the broadcast.

The politics that Lewis is referring to most likely deals with Spence Jr. and Crawford being represented by Eddie Hearn and Bob Arum. However, Crawford has openly asked to sever his relationship with Arum. Hopefully, we know more about the situation with Crawford and Arum, as no super-fight will get arranged if they are at odds with each other.

Errol Spence Jr. vs Terence Crawford: Is it possible?

Outside just the different promoters, there are a few other political issues that preclude this matchup from happening. Spence is with PBC (Premier Boxing Championship) who has a deal with Fox. Crawford, on the other hand, is with Top Rank, who has an exclusive deal with ESPN.

Both fighters will have to jump through a bunch of hoops to make a fight happen. However, Crawford is looking to get out of Top Rank by October next year, so a fight could realistically happen at the tail-end of next year. Both men are unlikely to stay dormant, so we can expect another possible matchup for both men prior to an eventual meeting.

This fight will also unify the Welterweight belts, as Crawford is currently holding WBO’s belt. The aforementioned issues also complicate other big fights. This includes possible matchups like Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder, if they were to try to book it.

Hopefully, we see Spence and Crawford face each other next year. After all, that is the only legitimate championship fight in boxing.
