After passing through a long list of potential opponents, Ryan Garcia has finally decided on one. On the 20th of April, he will fight Devin Haney at a Las Vegas venue. With a couple of months left for this mega-clash, Garcia has begun his training to face off against the former undisputed lightweight champion, who could potentially be his biggest challenge yet. A video from his training session, however, has nudged fans to question if he’s even primed to take on ‘The Dream’.

In December last year, Haney and Garcia were minutely close to finalizing a deal for a fight. However, at the last moment, KingRy pulled out, picking Rolando Romero as his next opponent. However, this failed to work and Romero went for Issac Cruz. After going through a carousel of not-so-exciting opponents, Garcia had to walk back home and call on Devin Haney for one final round of negotiations. With still a few months to go before the fight, is it fair to judge his preparedness as of yet? Let’s find out.

It seems like 25-year-old Garcia is hoping to go hard in his preparations to fight Devin Haney. After being dealt his career’s first loss to Gervonta Davis last year, he cannot afford another dent in his 24-1 record. But with the two-division champion, Haney, as his opponent, the chances of his losses hang over his head.

On YouTube, a short clipping of him showing off his physique has piqued fans’ interest. While the primary source of the video could be his Instagram, the video was routed by boxing insider, FightHub. It featured the super-lightweight fighter showing off his physique in a mirror. Sweaty, and heaving, KingRy showcased his upper body, assuring his fans that he’s in good shape, months ahead of his big fight. As he zoomed in further, focusing on droplets of his sweat, the music in the background intensified, potentially signifying how the next few months could get deeply intense for him.

There is still a bit of time left until one makes a staggering judgment of his fitness for the Haney fight. If one compares his physique before his previous fight against Oscar Duerte, he looked more ripped and toned than he does now. However, this is perhaps also because it is just the beginning of his fight camp.

Fans did not hold themselves back in letting the fighter know that this was not the best shape he’d been in. Harsh? Well, that was the collective voice of the fans.

Reality check or premature expectations?

One fan compared the boxer’s physique with their own and relayed how dissatisfied they were: “That’s how my stomach looks right now and I’m not happy about it.”

Another user compared how Ry looked for the ‘Tank’ fight and how he now looks for the Haney fight: “Ryan during Tank Fight: 9%bodyfat…Ryan preparing for Devin: 19% bodyfat.”

With a tinge of sass and a whole dollop of sarcasm, a fan noted how great it was for the fighter to just sweat: “Wow, you’re sweating! What an accomplishment!.”

A little harsh perhaps, a user thought Ry was in ‘terrible’ shape: “He looks in terrible shape for being a paid athlete.

Observing Ryan Garcia’s current physique, a user predicted the outcome of his clash against Devin Haney: “Haney by Unanimous decision.”
