Renowned for his prowess in the ring, he shaped the careers of numerous boxing greats, including his nephew, Floyd Mayweather Jr. His strategic brilliance and unique persona cemented his legacy as an iconic figure in combat sports. In an post, Lopez remembered the legendary boxer who passed away in March 2020 after his health kept deteriorating over the years. ‘The Takeover’ wrote, “May his soul rest in peace #RogerMayweather.” In the heartwarming homage, Lopez also remembered Roger’s iconic line, reiterating it in his post: “Most people don’t know sh*t about boxing.”

Roger Mayweather was the biggest Mayweather name in boxing until his nephew, Floyd Junior, took over the mantle. After being a junior lightweight and junior welterweight titlist, he finally hung his gloves in the year 1999. In the wake of his retirement, he was instrumental in training Floyd Mayweather. Often seen ringside in the early fights that ‘Money’ took, Roger remained a raging name in the boxing community until his last breath.

When the time came to inform the world of his passing, his trainee, who had reached the prime of his career, in a statement wrote, “My uncle was one of the most important people in my life inside and outside of the ring.” Roger’s imprint on the sport, Mayweather’s life, and the community remain poignant. His catchphrase is a part of that personality he left behind.
