The highest-grossing Pay-Per-View of all time is Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao. Both boxers were widely considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters at the time. The bout was such a spectacle that it got tagged as “The Fight of the Century.” And stylistically, the bout intrigued the boxing pundits; Mayweather was a defensive boxer and Pacquiao was an aggressive one. Ultimately, after years of anticipation, when both combatants squared off, Mayweather was the victor. He avoided Pacquiao’s punches and countered with accuracy and it was this game plan that fetched him a unanimous decision victory in the sport’s biggest fight.

Many look at this bout not just as a fight between two combatants but also as a contest between the offensive style of fighter vs a defensive style of fighter. And to see which style of fighting outshines the other. Although both styles of fighting are crucial, many dwell on making their picks between the two. Eight years later, Pacquiao made a statement about the defensive style of fighting which left the boxing world to remind him about his defeat against Mayweather.

Pacquiao retired as a competitor back in 2021 but remains a prominent figure in the sport. In a recent tweet made by him, he asserted that offense and defense are not necessarily contrary to each other but complement one another. He stated, “Offense can be the most effective form of defense at times.”

On similar lines, Zoomy Azumah mentioned his defeat against Mayweather and undermined his assertion. He stated, “This is why money may schooled you bro.”

On the contrary, fan Ash found himself agreeing with Pacquaio and stated, “So very true”
