Ahead of his fight against Jake Paul on July 20th at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Mike Tyson was joined by the winner of the Latin Grammy Award, Nicky Jam on HotBoxin’. In this final episode, with Tyson by his side, the artist meditated on the struggles he overcame in life. At one point in their conversation, Jam, who contributed to the album of XXX: Return of Xander Cage, opened up about his drug addiction.

At the same time, the 43-year-old boasted about learning the importance of discipline in life. However, he also regretted that he had no one to guide him on the right path in his childhood. At this, Mike Tyson advised Jam that the only way to get better is to take responsibility.

Early in his life, the El Perdon hitmaker, Nicky Jam struggled with drug addiction. However, in 2007, Jam decided to shift to Medellín, Colombia to counter his addiction by prioritizing his love for music. After the success he received in Medellín, Nicky Jam quit alcohol and drugs. Later, in an interview with Billboard, the singer even said, “People came to love me because I was loving myself.” Similarly, in the final episode of HotBoxin’, Jam emphasized the value of discipline.

However, the singer also felt one had to belong to a good community and family to be positively influenced. Therefore, meditating on the time he was arrested and the drugs he consumed, especially the events documented in Nicky Jam: El Ganador by Netflix, the 43-year-old said, “I didn’t have the foundation that [Daddy] Yankee had in his house. He had his mom, he had his dad. I didn’t have none of that s**t.” But Tyson had a slightly different view.

At his comments, Tyson interfered and said, “But, this is what I learned. You can only blame your parents and your community for so much. You got to take responsibility.” In his reply, Nicky Jam added, “I agree with that too. But, it influences a lot when you have a good home foundation.” To this, Tyson, who recently signed gloves for his fans, immediately said, “They get on drugs too. They run away from their parents [although] they have everything. I know billionaires [and] their kids despise them.”

Following Tyson’s words, Jam fell silent. On the other hand, co-host DJ Whoo Kid went on to mention how Jam’s music did not reflect the singer’s life.
