The body shot did the job for the southpaw, finally. Gervonta Davis won his twenty-ninth career bout by knockout against much fancied Ryan Garcia in the seventh round. With that, the twenty-eight-year-old Baltimorean has positioned himself as arguably ‘the face of boxing’. Many experts and former champions predicted the outcome close to what it was. Among them was Mike Tyson, who spoke about it on his show right before the fight.
Shaffer Chimere Smith, more popularly Ne-Yo, joined as the guest in Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson’s latest episode. The hugely popular singer, songwriter, and winner of three Grammy Awards has been active since 1988. In the United States, reportedly, he sold over 29 million albums. Sebastian Joseph-Day co-hosted the episode with Mike Tyson.
Around the twenty-fifth minute mark, the conversation hovered around some weird eating habits. While Tyson had the guest see a clip of a girl eating a brick of starch, Ne-Yo, in turn, spoke about a person who used to eat stones. So while they laughed about such outlandish incidents, Joseph-Day, popped up a fight question, “I know you’re a boxing fan, UFC fan. [So] who the hell you got on the boxing match this weekend?“

Million-dollar advice from Mike Tyson
The program was recorded on April 22, when Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia‘s fight occurred. So without hesitation, Ne-Yo replied, “I got ‘Tank’, and ‘Tank’ taking it. I am gonna say this. Ryan is fast, yeah, I don’t know [I] I don’t [I don’t] know how strong Ryan is. But he real fast, he real fast if you fight smart it’s gonna be a good fight if he gets caught with one of them uppercuts.“
Joseph-Day added that he felt that Garcia should take advantage of his reach. But Tyson seemed to disagree and thought that it would be difficult for the Californian to put up with the kind of aggression Davis would bring into the ring, “I don’t think he can. He can’t. I don’t think he could withstand the Onslaught this guy’s coming with. Hell.“

The co-host continued that it precisely warrants Garcia to maintain distance using his reach and jabs. But Tyson said it might not help since Davis moved very quickly, so Garica will have to use his thrusts with super-speed and aggressiveness. Ne-Yo, on the other hand, wondered whether the Californian had enough strength to deal with someone like ‘Tank’ Davis.
