When people think of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, they picture championship titles, superstardom, and wealth. But beyond the glitz and glory lies a compassionate individual – one who stands for others. The super middleweight champion’s charitable contributions are well known. But few realize just how deeply Alvarez involves himself in causes that impact both him and his community in Mexico.

In the latest instance, Alvarez used his platform to shed light on a heartbreaking situation – a missing 5-year-old girl. As he prepares for a crucial year in boxing, with an IBF title bout against William Scull in May and a long-anticipated clash with Terence Crawford in September, he has taken a moment to bring attention to a matter far greater than any fight.

Canelo Alvarez Raises Awareness for a Missing Child

On his Instagram Story, Alvarez shared a poster from Mexico’s AMBER Alert system, the nationwide initiative designed to locate and recover missing or abducted children. Similar to its U.S. counterpart, the alert includes the child’s name, photo, physical description, and last known whereabouts, spreading through media channels and public networks to maximize visibility.

In this case, an AMBER Alert seems to have been been activated at the national level in Mexico. According to reports, the then-four-year-old child went missing on June 27, 2023, in the municipality of Zapopan in the state of Jalisco. Now, federal authorities in Mexico have activated a nationwide Amber Alert as of 24 February 2025 to help locate her. And Canelo Alvarez, it seems, is doing his part in helping find the child using his 18.9-million-strong social media following. At the bottom of his Instagram story, a heartfelt message in Spanish read: “Al fin está activa la Alerta Amber a nivel nacional. ¡Te sentimos cada día más cerca, chiquitina!!” It roughly translates to: “Finally, the AMBER Alert is active nationwide. We feel you closer every day, little one!!

Alvarez’s advocacy for children extends beyond this moment. Fans may recall his generous $1 million donation to the children’s treatment organization Nariz Roja AC. On their Twitter handle, the charity profusely thanked the world champion. “Today we delivered 600 vincristine 300 @HospitalCivil and 300 @ijc_salud with the support of donors especially @Canelo @CANELOTEAM so that love continues to knock out cancer!!!

A Champion’s Generosity Beyond the Ring

Additionally, he has consistently supported rising athletes. Marco Alonso Verde Alvarez remains one good example. The fighter from Sinaloa, who turned 23 last month, must have been surprised on receiving a message from boxing’s biggest icon. Putting up a splendid performance, Verde, whose father had also participated in the Olympics, went on to win a silver in Paris.

‘Canelo’ Alvarez congratulated the young boxer, writing, “Gracias por poner el nombre del boxeo mexicano en alto.” In English, it means, “Thank you for putting the name of Mexican boxing up.” As a devoted father himself, Canelo Alvarez understands the pain of families enduring such hardships. His actions reflect a fighter who not only dominates in the ring but also fights for those in need. Let’s hope the missing child is found soon and safely reunited with her loved ones.
