It’s been over five months since that body shot pulverized Ryan Garcia into total submission. A lot happened in Gervonta Davis‘ life after that. From the hallowed squared circle, the WBA Lightweight champion had to move inside the four walls of a prison. He remained incarcerated for the next one and a half months. Fans are eagerly awaiting the explosive fighter’s return. His name has been frequently cropping up against some top dogs of boxing. It reportedly includes Terence Crawford. Hence, probably with intentions of putting all rumor mills to rest, the champion and his team took up the cudgels to announce a tentative return.

The year commenced with Gervonta Davis blazing away Hector Garcia during the third title defense. Subsequently, he vacationed breezily through the Garcia fight. Given the kind of crow-puller that he is, expectations are high from the arguable ‘face of boxing.’ So, what exactly will he bring to the table this time? When could fans expect to see him back in the ring? It seems people close to his camp might have some updates.

Fans can finally expect to see the light at the end of the tunnel. First, Davis’ long-time trainer, Calvin Ford, hinted at what would come. Speaking on ‘The Rize Podcast,’ he said, “Right now, something big is coming; I can tell you that. It’s quiet for a reason. They’re trying to seal the deal. It’s going to make the world turn.

The champion himself shared his input while replying to a tweet early today. When asked whether he is returning by the fourth quarter of the year or early next year, Davis replied, “I’m getting my personal life together.. I’ll see yall top of the year.” Now that it has caught the attention of most of the fans and followers, they all eagerly look forward to the next update in the coming months.

The happiness after the Garcia win proved short-lived. In a 2020 hit-and-run case, the champion avoided jail by taking the plea agreement and admitting guilt on four traffic charges. But in turn, he received a sentence that included 90 days’ house arrest, probation for three years, and performing community service for 200 hours.

However, on June 1, law enforcement authorities arrested Gervonta Davis for alleged violations of house detention regulations. The court later sentenced the southpaw to spend 44 days of his 90-day sentence in jail. Davis came out on July 14, and since then, loud whisperings have been going around the town about his next move.

That month, viewers witnessed another big bang match between Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford. The latter outboxed the Texas native to announce his entry as a modern-day great. Now, to fortify his legacy, the Nebraskan seeks another big match-up. Both Canelo Alvarez and Jermell Charlo are on his radar. The Lightweight champion did his bit by announcing that he could wing up Crawford’s business in six rounds if they ever squared up.

The two-division undisputed champion eventually made it clear that he would greet the Baltimorean in the ring, provided he moved up a division to 147 pounds. Then there is talk of a rematch with Isaac Cruz, one of the two boxers who dared take Davis the distance. During an interview, the latter reportedly expressed interest in fighting Frank Martin, who allegedly gave him a tough time during a sparring session.
