He is now the 4th Mexican Born fighter to have won 20 title fights. With this, he has joined the ranks of other Mexican legends such as Julio Cesar Chavez, Ricardo Lopez, and Marco Antonio Barrera. Many accused him of cherry-picking his opponents and even brought up him not facing ‘The Mexican Monster’ David Benavidez. Earlier this year Benavidez had sent him a huge offer of $50 million, which Alvarez totally disregarded.

One fan accused Alvarez of ducking both Benavidez and Demetrius Andrade.

Another fan mourned the death of Salvador “Sal” Sánchez who died tragically in a car accident back in 1982. He stated, “Salvador was taken way too early from us. He definitely would’ve been the greatest of em all.”
