It’s often said that much of what’s going to happen in the ring has already happened in the minds of the boxers. For all its sheer physical nature, boxing remains a mind game. It’s not something Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou should be unfamiliar with. So where do the heavyweight duo stand in terms of the game of minds?

Undoubtedly, both sides are leaving no stone unturned to snatch a victory on March 8. However, before the actual battle, a tussle of preparations should be good enough to keep the fans intrigued. It will keep them engaged and go vocal with what their icon’s been doing. So on and so forth. Take, for instance, today’s example. Fans came across pictures of ‘AJ’ and ‘The Predator.’ Though unrelated, both photos hyped the two sides to such an extent that even a few celebrities felt compelled to share their views.

Mind over Matter? Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou on the way to ‘Knockout Chaos’

Anthony Joshua displayed his mental focus and prowess in juggling by tossing and catching what appeared to be three different balls—two in his hands and one still suspended in the air. ‘AJ’ wrote on his Instagram post, “Everything is mental.” Then, sometime later, Boxing Kingdom, through its X/Twitter handle, shared a photograph of a fully shredded Francis Ngannou going through a shadow boxing routine. The tweet read, “Francis Ngannou vs. Anthony Joshua is one month away, and Ngannou looks in brilliant shape.

Clearly, fans at both corners must have been fascinated by the sight of their icons following up altogether with different regimens to bolster their chances. One of the fans who seems to have been completely blown away by ‘The Predator’s preparation said, “AJ won’t be able to recover from this monster’s uppercut.” But on the other hand, Joshua’s fans weren’t far behind and sounded equally gung-ho about what he has been doing.

One of the users commented on AJ’s post, “Ngannou will think you’re not preparing. He has been posting himself in gym since they announced that both of you will fight. Now look at what you posted. Everything is mental, truly.” But perhaps one of the best reactions came from the British supermodel Naomi Campbell, who gave three hearts in support of Anthony Joshua. Undoubtedly, fans would be looking out for more such photographs in the days leading up to the final fight.

Many past examples have shown that in the race to a big fight, more often than not, the one who wins the battle in the head gets to take the belt as well. ‘AJ’ and Ngannou will meet next month in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Their battle follows the undisputed war between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk that will take place a few weeks prior to AJ vs. Ngannou. It’s a non-title but high-stakes bout for both Joshua and Ngannou. The winner might be lucky enough to challenge the newly coronated, undisputed heavyweight champion.
