Not long ago, Claressa Shields held the annual giveaway in her hometown, Flint. Now the world champion with a big heart will be steering another move to support the community as Christmas nears.

Claressa Shields, who became an undisputed champion on October 15 last year, defended her title successfully against Maricela Cornejo on June 3. According to reports, the undisputed middleweight champion will now be holding a toy drive in Flint. It would be the fourth time she has held the event. Basically, it will give disadvantaged children a chance to come and choose a toy they will love taking home. That’s not all. Even families will benefit, as they will receive food, clothes, and other household items at the venue.

According to the article on ABC12 News, speaking about the giveaway that takes place at AT Fitness in Mt. Morris between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m., Shields said, “It means a lot. I’m like a huge giver. When I was growing up for Christmas, a majority of the time, I never got what I wanted.

According to the two-time Olympic gold medalist, like many, she grew up in straitened circumstances. But through sheer grit and determination, she overcame the hurdles. Now she is immensely successful. However, not even once has she forgotten where she came from or what she had been through when she was young. She is thus able to understand and empathize with families and individuals who are going through similar ups and downs in their lives.

New Year’s reality: Fight in the ring or the octagon?

As far as the world of combat sports is concerned, it is highly likely that she will be returning to the octagon next year. Two years ago, under the Professional Fighters League’s banner, Claressa Shields debuted as a mixed martial artist. This year, in August, she re-signed a multi-year contract with the promotion.

However, last year, she defeated archrival Savannah Marshall to become the undisputed champion. Since then, talks of a rematch between the two have been flying around intermittently. On July 1, the Englishwoman defeated Franchón Crews-Dezurn to become the undisputed champion in the super middleweight division. So during the post-fight press conference, to everyone’s surprise, Claressa Shields was there. She called out Marshall for another fight.

Incidentally, the ‘Silent Assassin’ also followed Claressa Shields and signed up with the Professional Fighters League (PFL) for a mixed martial arts debut next year. So there’s a high chance of the two rivals settling their argument inside an octagon as much as in the ring.
