“1 Month Streak of Cap”: Boxing Fans Left Dumbfounded After Seeing the Official Scorecard for Teófimo Lopez vs Josh Taylor

The underdog proved the oddsmaker’s calculations wrong. Teofimo Lopez illustrated that writing him off the books is not easy. The twenty-five-year-old Brooklynite seems to have finally found his touch. He staged an upset victory over WBA Welterweight champion Josh Taylor through a unanimous decision. But once again, like a couple of instances in the recent past, the scoring done by the judges has raised a few questions.

Unlike the Haney-Lomachenko match, which many claimed was robbed out of the Ukrainian’s hands, there’s near unanimity on Lopez’s win. He came out the better boxer as the fight night progressed. Michael Benson shared the scorecard post-fight. The details seem to have sent quite a lot of followers to shock. Understandably, most questioned the criteria behind two judges handing out similar scores of 115-113.

One user strongly believes the judges must have had at least a month-long run of “cap” to post such scores.

A user named Fabrice finds the scoring ridiculous. Pulling no punches, he opines that the licenses of judges Steve Gray and Joseph Pasquale should be rescinded. Additionally, they should be put in prison. After all, the 115-113 score sounds outlandish.

Echoing a similar line, Tom also mentioned that a 115-113 score could be the work of a feather-brained. According to him, the two judges – Gray and Pasquale tried their best to get Josh Taylor in the winning seat.

A user named Omar contends that the kind of scoring done at the Lopez-Taylor bout proves the manipulation involved in a few contests. Probably one of the examples he could remember remains the recently held Haney-Lomachenko bout. In light of the latest scoring, he already feels sorry for Vasiliy Lomachenko, who lost.

Looking at the scorecard, user Kairu contends that it’s nonsensical to imagine that if Teofimo lost the final round, the match would have gone for a majority draw.

Teofimo Lopez once again established that the same boxer who outboxed the masterful ring technician Vasiliy Lomachenko three years ago stays put. After the loss to George Kambosos Jr. the following year, he moved to 140 lbs. However, his performance in the division led to widespread concern. Finally, proving all the doubters wrong, he was at his foxy best against the much bigger Taylor, tiring out the Scotsman over the rounds.
