They parted ways with the Rolando Romero fight in May 2022. But the relations between Gervonta Davis (now Abdul Wahid) and Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his promotions, Mayweather Promotions, reportedly remained amicable. So much so that the latter stood by his side as he waded through Ryan Garcia‘s challenge last year in April. Hence, the recent spat between the two sides has taken the boxing world by surprise. Never once could one imagine that things between the two sides would hit such a nadir. Now, a new twist finds the squabble, to all appearances, knocking at a different door.

Curmel Moton secured a third consecutive win during the PBC-Amazon Prime inaugural event on March 30. Hence, it was expected that he would return on Canelo Alvarez‘s May 4 undercard. However, as of now, this doesn’t seem to be the case. The explosive fight apprised the followers of the situation with an update on the tentative return. But ‘Tank’, seemingly unhappy with his mentor, took it upon himself to remind the youngster that he might have to wait for some more time.

Early today, Curmel Moton shared a collage of pictures with his fans and followers, featuring him and Floyd Mayweather Jr. training at the gym. Another shot shows the undefeated former world champion assisting Moton in putting on his gloves. Curmel Moton seems clearly elated by the support and guidance he has been receiving from one of boxing’s greatest. He wrote, “Best team in boxing.”

But soon he received a response from Gervonta Davis (now Abdul Wahid). The WBA lightweight champion said, “Yo a** won’t be on the June 15 card either.” Now, why would he say that? It seems that yesterday, Curmel Moton shared some information regarding his next fight.

Unfortunately, I will not be fighting next weekend on the 4th. I appreciate all of your support except me back in June. I promise to put on a show,” said Moton. So was he hinting at the June 15 Gervonta Davis (now Abdul Wahid)-Frank Martin undercard?

Details regarding other card fights remain largely unavailable. However, the upcoming PBC-Amazon Prime show features David Benavidez taking on Oleksandr Gvozdyk in his inaugural light heavyweight fight.

To many, it might appear that the estrangement between the boxing legend and his former mentee is spilling over to other channels. Fans saw ‘Tank’ tweeting Floyd Mayweather Jr. being ‘stuck’ in Dubai on account of money he needs to payback after a follower quipped on checking whether ‘The Money’ was ‘being held hostage in Dubai. In response, through his Instagram story, the undefeated former champion shared a few clips of the lightweight champion dancing, with the former calling out, “We always knew, had a little sugar in his tank.

Just like how way back in 2015 they took up a young Gervonta Davis’ responsibility, nurturing him and taking him to world championship level, Team Mayweather took up the cause of another bright prodigy. Curmel Moton was barely eight when he entered the Mayweather gym. Over the years, under their tutelage, the Salt Lake City-born boxer sharpened his skills, which eventually saw him make an impressive amateur resume. Last year, September 30 was a watershed moment in his life as the world watched him fight as a professional.
