In a sensational debut at 140 pounds, Devin Haney not only claimed the WBC super lightweight world title but showcased his prowess with a dominating victory over Regis Prograis at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California. As he transitioned from lightweight to super lightweight, he received a lot of criticism for his poor show in his last performance against Vasiliy Lomachenko. However, ‘The Dream’ managed to silence all such voices in his performance against the New Orleans native. Moreover, the difference between the two can be reflected on the judges’ scorecard with it being 120-107 in favor of Haney.

He managed to outclass Prograis in all aspects as he used his superior speed, defense, and accuracy to his advantage. Throughout the match, Haney demonstrated discipline, resisting the urge to rush for a knockout and instead opting for strategic boxing. He even knocked down Prograis during the third round of the match-up. With such an impressive performance, Oscar De La Hoya is even looking at the possibility of a match-up between Haney and Ryan Garica.

As the fight between Prograis and Devin Haney concluded, the result caused a sensation in the boxing world. Even boxing promoter Oscar De La Hoya took to Twitter to take the chance to create hype for a potential bout. In his tweet, he wrote, “I’m going to push for @RyanGarcia vs @Realdevinhaney let’s go!”. Although the specifics of the prospective bout remain uncertain, the idea of the fight is certainly interesting.

Although after his recent victory, Garcia called out Rollie Romero for a shot at the WBA lightweight championship, the Haney bout possesses even more allure for both the fans and the fighters as well. Moreover, Romero has already shown signs of backing down from the fight. As in a recent interview he claimed that Garcia doesn’t deserve to fight him. He also hinted at the possibility of moving up in weight. Nonetheless, any of these fights are great for Garcia.

Garcia divided between Romero and Haney

It appears that despite the promoter and Garcia being at odds with one another for most things when it comes to a fight against Haney, they both are on the same team. Interestingly, prior to the fight, Garcia had stated, “One thing is certain in my eyes is that Haney and I will fight in 2024. You can hold me to it unless it’s not in Gods Will”.

He even mulled over the possibility of facing Haney first before Romero.
