Just two weeks remain for the first PBC pay-per-view event on Amazon Prime. However, predictions of tentative outcomes hover across the online landscape. Oscar De La Hoya joined with his thoughts on the co-main event of the Tim Tszyu vs. Keith Thurman headliner, the title fight between Rolando Romero and Isaac Cruz.

The Romero-Cruz fight comes over the failed discussions to bring ‘Rollie’ and Ryan Garcia into the ring. Incidentally, even ‘KingRy’ had called out Isaac Cruz, but to no avail. Oscar De La Hoya summed up perceptively, including the round when the bout might come to an end while interacting with media.

At first, De La Hoya burst into a hearty laughter upon hearing ‘Rollie’ Romero’s name. One of the reporters from Fight Hype had asked him for his thoughts on the upcoming fight. “Look, Rollie I I I have to. I swear, I have to. I have my my hat off to Rollie, really, because he’s he’s he’s like a little clown,” said the Olympic gold medalist. Nevertheless, he also added that probably Romero might not be deserving of the fight. But despite that, he has commendably bargained himself into such a high-profile contest.

However, come whatever, De La Hoya said that in the end, ‘Pitbull’ Cruz will knock out ‘Rollie’. He said, “He he’s seriously like getting himself in this position is is brilliant it really is because he doesn’t deserve it, and it’s brilliant that he has this fight and he’s getting, you know, so, but on a serious note, as a fighter, as a serious, you know, legend, whatever uh yeah, he’s going to get knocked out by Pitbull.

Oscar De La Hoya discarded the role of weight in the fight. “…no the weight won’t play a difference,” he said. He highlighted how and possibly when the short-statured Cruz might wind up the match.

The Golden Boy Sets the Timer

According to ‘The Golden Boy’, the American boxer could boast power shots in his arsenal. But he lacks serious boxing talent to lend him an advantage over a bona fide fighter like Isaac Cruz. The latter would get in the inside of Romero. Then, with a quick body shot or an uppercut, he might finally close the deal with an overhand.

I mean, Pitbull very he’s relentless and look, uh Rollie is uh Rollie is awkward. He’s uh doesn’t really have talent in in in boxing like a real fighter; he has power; he throws all those wide, lunging punches, but that’s not going to do it against a Pitbull …Pitbull’s a real you know he’s a real fighter…he’s a serious real fighter,” said De La Hoya.

A reporter asked about the round that he believes would bring about an early stoppage for Romero. ‘The Golden Boy’ replied, “Let me see…fourth round.

It would be ‘Rollie’ Romero’s first title defense. He became the WBA (vacant) light welterweight champion on May 13 last year after beating Ismael Barroso. On the other hand, it’s a divisional debut for ‘Pitbull’. Apart from retaining the WBC silver lightweight title, he won the vacant WBO Latino lightweight belt on July 29, 2022.

The weight difference could be a concern to a few fans. However, many rate the Mexican fighter as the clear favorite to win. After all, he holds the distinction of being the second-only boxer to have taken Gervonta Davis (now Abdul Wahid) the whole distance.
