It’s not just Canelo Alvarez who has parted ways with the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC). Even Terence Crawford, the No.1 pound-for-pound boxer, is reported to have parted ways with the promotion company. Where does ‘Bud’ go from here? Perhaps, Oscar De La Hoya has an idea in mind?

After his uber-important match with Errol Spence Jr. that saw him emerging as the undisputed champion of the welterweight division, a rematch clause was immediately invoked. However, more than eight months later, the rematch still seems like a distant dream. Without any confirmation for a future fight anytime soon, Crawford has decided to jump ship. Currently, without a promoter, the question arises: Could De La Hoya be the possible replacement? He certainly believes so.

Does Oscar De La Hoya want Terence Crawford and Canelo both?

The head of ‘Golden Boy Promotions,’ Oscar De La Hoya, is eager to collaborate once again with Canelo or secure a fighter of almost equivalent stature, such as Crawford. Therefore, the promoter extended a three-word invitation to the undefeated 40-0 champion. To Bud, he wrote, “Hit me up @terencecrawford.”

Interestingly, Crawford also remains keen to fight Canelo. Does this post have anything to do with that? While it is unclear as to what the promoter wants to discuss with the welterweight champion, it is speculated that he hopes to bring Bud under his promotional company. Will that happen? Quite uncertain, but his relentless yearning to work with the big names was seen in a very recent interview he gave.

“Somehow I have to get to Canelo”: Golden Boy

On Ariel Helwani’s MMA Hour, the promoter expressed that he was keen on working once again with the super middleweight champion, Canelo. The duo had worked together prior, until late 2020, when their relationship soured and Canelo joined Matchroom. Since then, they have hardly had a relationship, noted the promoter.

However, in recent days, conjecture suggested that the Mexican fighter will clash against his contemporary Jaime Munguia on May 4. Munguia, who comes fresh off defeating John Ryder, is a marquee fighter with Golden Boy. Denying that the fight will happen on May 4, Golden Boy noted, “Canelo holds all the cards here – that is the problem. It’s a big problem. Everybody wants him on their platform, whether it is DAZN or whether it is Amazon, that PBC has.” De La Hoya added, “Somehow I have to get to Canelo. I don’t know how I am going to do it – but I am going to do it.”

It is unlikely that Canelo will go with Golden Boy for a second time. However, to get a fight between him and Munguia rolling will be a massive opportunity for the promoter. Do you think it is wise for these fighters to join Golden Boy Promotions? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
