Boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya, who also serves as the promoter for WBC interim lightweight titleholder Ryan Garcia, recently cleared the air over his fighter’s next move. Garcia, who showed his prowess as being one of the top lightweights in the world, knocked out Luke Campbell in his last appearance in January.

Seizing the opportunity, ‘King Ry’ called out one of the biggest names in the division. “I want to fight Tank. I know people are worried about that. But I’m ready,” the 22-year-old said.

Till now, talks for the epic showdown between the two young exciting lightweights have not yet borne fruit.

In a recent Q and A with The Athletic, ’Golden Boy’ discussed the likelihood of a possible fight between the two. “We’ve all heard Garcia be very vocal about wanting to fight the very best, and I love that, actually, but with a fighter like Tank Davis, I have to admit it would be a little dangerous to just go into that fight,” he said.

Garcia, scheduled to fight Javier Fortuna next, pulled out of the fight. He announced his decision to withdraw via an IG post. ‘KingRy’ is, however, looking to get back into competition soon.

Gervonta Davis, who is also coming off a spectacular TKO victory over Mario Barrios, is targeting a return to action by October. The timeframes for the return of the two surging lightweights align, but Oscar De La Hoya thinks it is not likely that we will see the two facing off this year.

“If Ryan is going to fight Davis, I would love that fight to happen in the first quarter of next year, after Ryan has a fight, so he could get the cobwebs out of the way, get his timing back and move toward that,” theGolden Boy’ said.
